Leaving from Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, we head northwest towards our first stop in Callander, passing famous landmarks such as Linlithgow Palace: birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, the mystical Kelpies, and the dramatically perched Stirling Castle. The stop Callander is where you can grab some refreshments and the chance to meet one of the resident Highland Cows (season dependant).
Continuing our travels through Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park we travel onwards to Glencoe. As you make your way through the glen, your Driver/ Guide will be keen to point out the scenic spots used in films such as James Bond Skyfall, and as the backdrop to some scenes from Harry Potter franchise. We quickly stop in Glencoe for a photo opportunity where you'll stand in awe of the dramatic ridges named the Three Sisters.
Travelling north along the banks of Loch Linnhe, our next stop will be in the Fort William area for lunch before heading into the natural beauty of the Great Glen as we pass Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
Back in the coach for a short drive to the Glenfinnan viaduct which was made famous from its scenes in the Harry Potter movies from the filming of the Hogwarts Express. From the visitors centre you will be able to take a short walk to the viewpoint in time for the awesome sight of the Jacobite Steam Train crossing the viaduct*. You can spend the remainder of your time taking in the breath-taking views down the glen across Loch Shiel (Black Lake) which was also used in various Harry Potter scenes as well as the loch on which Hogwarts sits.
Leaving Glenfinnan, our tour will begin its journey south. The road home will be time to relax and take in the Highland scenery as we cut through the Cairngorms National Park and the scenic woodland of Perthshire. Final refreshment stop is at the historic town of Pitlochry before continuing the journey home over the Firth of Forth alongside UNESCO Forth Rail Bridge enroute back into Edinburgh.
Please note that the Jacobite Steam Train is operated by separate company and although our tour is scheduled around seeing this we cannot guarantee train will run on the day of your tour. This service is seasonal and runs from Thursday 28th March to Friday 25th October 2024.
