Korouoma Canyon, located 110 kilometres southeast of Rovaniemi, is a stunning 30-kilometre-long and up to 130-meter-deep fracture valley offering breathtaking scenery year-round. With its cliffs, rapids, and waterfalls, this natural reserve is a haven for hikers and home to rare species. In winter, the waterfalls freeze into magnificent ice formations, making the area a popular spot for ice climbers and nature-loving tourists from around the world.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive to the canyon, where your guide will lead you on a peaceful hike through the Arctic wilderness. Each season transforms Korouoma into a unique natural wonder—from the lush green tranquility of spring and summer to the vibrant colors of autumn, known locally as "Ruska," when the forest turns golden and fiery before the snow sets in. As you explore the canyon, your guide will help you spot wildlife tracks and teach you about the surrounding flora and fauna, with the chance to see signs of wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, or Arctic hares.
Midway through the hike, you’ll gather around an open fire for a traditional Finnish barbecue snack and hot drinks. Your guide will demonstrate fire-building techniques using flint and natural materials, even in freezing conditions down to -30°C. This break is not only a warm respite but also a perfect moment to learn more about Lapland’s nature and way of life. The full excursion lasts about 7 hours, including hiking, lunch, and transfers, and concludes around 16:00 in Rovaniemi. With small group sizes limited to 8 participants, this tour ensures a personalized experience, allowing your guide to tailor the adventure to your interests while avoiding mass tourism and enhancing your connection to Lapland’s serene beauty.
